These Posts and Memes Transport Us Back to the 80s

Everyone thinks that when they were young was the best decade that ever happened. Well, as a child of the 80s and 90s, I am here to tell you that only one group is right, and it’s us. The 80s and 90s really were an amazing time: giant hair, boy bands, Brendan Fraser in his prime. What’s not to like? We’ve gathered memes and images from around the web to prove to you that the 80s and 90s really were the best of all possible decades. Read on to see if you agree or if we’re just looking back with nostalgia-tinted glasses.
Stay Golden
You know you’re an 80s expert when you see four older women together and immediately think of the iconic quartet of women who make up the Golden Girls, and of the iconic theme song for the TV show. I never even watched the show, and I still immediately started singing along when I read this.

The craziest thing that I recently learned about the Golden Girls is how young they actually are. I always thought they were ancient, partly because their hair and clothing reflect what I remember very old people wearing back then. In actuality, though, the characters, other than Sophia, were fairly young—in their 50s and 60s.
Snakes Don’t Walk, They Slither
Being a 90s kid meant having a whole shelf of Disney movie VHS tapes—Disney was the undisputed king of kid movies, and VHS’s were the only option for owning movies. Anyone else remember those white clamshell cases and how easily they got smashed?

With only a limited number of movies at our fingertips, since there were no streaming services, we rewatched the movies we did own dozens or hundreds of times. So this screenshot from Robin Hood, and this reminder of how great that movie is, makes me very nostalgic for my childhood.
If You Know What This Is, You Were Born in the Right Generation
Kids today will never know how easy they have it when it comes to taking pictures. In my day, you had to buy rolls of film, which was expensive, and carefully put the film in your camera without exposing too much of it to the sunlight (which would lead to that portion of the film being unusable).

And after you had taken a picture on your terrible cheap point-and-shoot camera, you had no way to tell if it was good until you took the film to a drug store or a camera shop and had it developed (which was also expensive). And it wasn’t until you got your pictures back that you realized that you had spent all that money just to get seven good pictures out of a roll of twenty-four exposures.
I’m Loving It
It seems like McDonald’s is trying really hard to convince everyone that they are cool. For the last 10 years or more, it seems like all of their advertising campaigns involve showing hip young people enjoying burgers in sleek, minimalistic McDonald’s locations.

But that was not always the case! McDonald’s used to have a whole cast of costumed mascots who appeared in all of their advertising, and if you were a big enough fan, you could even purchase glassware with these characters on them. Not so cool after all, are you, Micky D?
